Venue: The Opera House
Location: Toronto Ontario Canada
Promoter: Inertia Entertainment
Bands: Suffokate/Caliban/After The Burial/Born Of Osiris/All Shall Perish
Coming all the way from Oakland California, these deathcorers came on and rocked the crowd for a good half hour. Having played in Ontario before, fans knew what to expect from the band, and a few even knew the words to their songs. Hitting the crowd hard with their breakdowns and low grunt vocals they won over the crowd right from the start. There album ‘No Mercy No Forgiveness’ has been pushed back to 2010 so that is a release I can’t wait to get my hands on. They will be back soon and I intend to see them knowing their songs better. A side note for this band is their bassest Bray Almini use to play for headliners All Shall Perish.

The softest band of the night, German band Caliban came on and opened with 24 Years, a track off their latest album. This band had the most energy jumping around and swinging there guitar/bass around themselves. They also did the first wall of death for the night. Caliban has a great live performance and have played some big festivals, sadly did not have a fanbase that night but hopefully they won new people over to be fans. Everyone should check out their latest release ‘Say Hello To Tragedy’.

The true shredders of the night After The Burial open with Berzerker. They shred songs throughout the night such as A Steady Decline and Aspirations. They end their set with Fingers Like Daggers. Trent Hafdahl had some guitar troubles during the set but he quickly fixed his problem and got back to shredding for Toronto. A side note that makes the set just a bit better is the neon guitars that the 2 shredders play on stage.

The young band being booked on a vast amount of great metal tours, opened their set with Rebirth, the intro to their latest album and then the band performed there heavy songs for the crowd. These guys to me are always funny to watch. First off their guitarist Lee McKinney looks like hes going to take a massive crap on stage whenever he crouches. Seeing Tosin Abasi (Animals As Leaders, Reflux) always makes me think of the video he did for New York Magazine which displays what he wears when he is not on stage. The bassest David Darocha looks like he picked up some tips from Disturbed’s David Draiman with looking mad and having head twitches. Overall these guys are great live with everyone in the crowd shouting out the lyrics and rocking out hard. I will be seeing them again on the Decimation Of The Nation Tour 2009 2.

A special date of the tour for All Shall Perish. Unlike the other dates, they headlined over Born Of Osiris. These guys came on and rocked the stage. They played my favorite ASP song Eradication and they also played Never…Again which was dedicated to all the girls in the crowd. They also started up the 2nd Wall Of Death of the night which was brutal. I wish I knew All Shall Perish’s music better. Next time they come I will have to see them again and hopefully know there music better.
