Starting off the show was these heavy metaler's. Once they started I felt like I was in the 70's-80s. They were energetic and had some great heavy metal riffs. The vocalist could use a bit of work during his lower parts but his high parts were absolutely piercing to the ears so he gets my respect on that for sure. After their set I was jonesing for some Judas Priest, Iron Maiden.....

Another band that was different compared to what the upcoming bands had in store for us was Fatality. They had more of a thrash metal approach to their music. They actually reminded me a lot of Megadeth that needs more work. They had a song "Thrash,Fuck,Eat,Sleep" which was pretty funny. They are a band I would want to see again in the near future.

Photobucket BLACKGUARD
Representing Canada on this tour Profugus Mortis...O wait there called Blackguard now, rocked the stage. This is the start of the never ending screaming of the night. Like always Paul Ablaze takes hold of the crowd and controls the crowd. The guitarists Terry/Kim play some thrashy guitars with mellow keyboards from Jonathan backing them up. Then strong drum beats from a very small girl named Justine holding everyone together. I had a chance to talk to Paul Ablaze and he informed me that October they planned to headline a tour across Ontario/Quebec so that is something to definitely to keep an eye out for.

Photobucket DECREPIT BIRTH
When I walked by their merch booth I saw Bill Robinson standing there selling merch. When I first saw him it never clicked in my head that it was there vocalist, I thought it was some badass hippie looking metal head which was cool. When he came on stage he kicked my ass showing me he was more than a metal head but a true death metal vocalist. He kind of reminded me of a crazier/heavier version of Anders Friden of In Flames. The band was heavy and had a short set to win over an audience with their mind blowing music. Even though I have heard them and seen them before, I will still amaze at their heaviness of the band. After this set I saw a lot of Decrepit Birth shirts around the venue. They announced that they are coming back with Vader which will hopefully give them a longer set since they really deserve it.

This was my first time seeing these guys and I was really anxious to see them. They had some excellent riffage in their songs. They were a group of young dudes ripping the stage with 2 excellent guitarists. It was like watching a much heavier Protest The Hero (funny cause later in the night I met up with Tim of PTH), they just never stopped going nuts. The only time the guitarists would stop going crazy is when they were breaking down, but there breakdowns there would be some crazy overlays from one of the guitarists. To me this band wins the shredding award for the show. They have a rerelease of Rareform coming out soon.

BENEATH THE MASSACRE
Another band representing Canada? That is rare to see 2 on the same festival tour, but yes it happened. Being on this tour for the third time, these guys are getting to know the Summer Slaughter procedure very well. They hit the stage talking very little and ripping up the stage very fast. Lots of crazy, heavy riffs and hardcore breakdowns. They came on stage and destroyed the crowd then left to let the next band have their way with the crowd.

Hitting the stage as a four peace instead of a five piece, these guys were rocking the stage. One thing that differentiates this band from the rest is that big vocalist they have named James Lee. He was ripping off low to high growls way before there set started which showed he was anxious to play just like the rest of the band. Also unlike the last 2 bands, they did not have breakdowns which was nice to have as a break. The guitaring was technical and crazy which was definitely music to my ears. They like all the others destroyed the crowd wanting more. They were the first band to have people calling their name after their set. ORIGIN ORIGIN ORIGIN!!!

Photobucket BORN OF OSIRIS
Starting off with some dance beats from their keyboard during soundcheck led right into their start of their set with a breakdown. Everyone one stage was in sync with each other bouncing up and down to this beat. Then they went right into their music. I felt they had a slow start to their set with not sounding that great but in about a minute they picked up started to really rock there set. Like there label mates After The Burial they had lots of complex parts and breakdowns. The back screen turned from the Summer Slaughter Tour logo to there The New Reign album cover.

Photobucket WINDS OF PLAGUE
The plague had finally hit the crowd. Having a big name for themselves in the deathcore scene they pretty much were like the wind and swept up the crowd who knew the lyrics to WOP's songs. Every break part for the crowd to scream was known by the crowd. This was the most crowd participation for the whole show. They remind me a lot of Bleeding Through with the bulked up singer and the hot female keyboardist. Only difference is WOP are MUCH heavier and more technical. They have a new album "The Great Stone War" which is out on August 11. One thing before I end this review. KRISTEN RANDALL is damn hot, especially in a corset.

Photobucket DARKEST HOUR
The softest band on this tour but probably the best known band overall was not shy of the big stage. Having played many festivals these guys brought upon the best stage presence out of every band that was there. Just releasing their latest album not long ago "The Eternal Return" they played there new single "No God". Also this time they were equipped with a new guitarist, Mike "Lonestar" Carrigan, who was part of the band At All Cost. They rocked the stage but sadly the crowd wasn't there general crowd.

Photobucket ENSIFERUM
Coming all the way from Finland, these guys +girl brought to Toronto that night some folk metal. By this time everyone was tired but the true Ensiferum fans kept going. Everyone was throwing their horns in the air and singing along. Someone even had a Ensiferum flag up that they were wearing as a cape all day, so high fives to that dude. They gave the best set I have ever seen them do and they said they will be returning at the end of the year to tour there new album "From Afar" out Sept 9.

Photobucket NECROPHAGIST
The final band of the night and me and everyone that was there had sore feet. People were sitting against the walls as they listened to the technical death metal of Necrophagist. having headlined this tour before they were ready to show off their songs along with a new song which sounded amazing. Between every song vocalist/guitarist Muhammed SuiƧmez would always say "Thank you Toronto". The guy was not a talker just a great musician. They are working on a new album but that’s all the information we got from it. It is an anticipated album amongst death metal fans everywhere.
